Centers & Programs

Center for Writing
Through individual consultations, workshops, and research grants, the Center for Writing supports the work of all University of Minnesota students, faculty, and staff engaged in the practice, teaching, and study of writing. The Center for Writing houses five connected programs: Student Writing Support, Teaching with Writing, Interdisciplinary Studies of Writing, the Graduate Minor in Literacy and Rhetorical Studies, and the Minnesota Writing Project.

Industrial Affiliates Program (IAP)
The Industrial Affiliates Program fosters collaborative relationships between the Department of Writing Studies' scientific and technical communication program and technical communication professionals in business and industry. The IAP supports numerous internship positions throughout the academic year and offers graduate students in our M.S., M.A., and Ph.D. programs the opportunity to collaborate on a research project with our affiliates through an annual fellowship. The IAP hosts a colloquium each spring.

Society for Technical Communication Student Chapter - University of Minnesota
Our chapter is a community of 31 students (from B.S., M.S., M.A., and Ph.D. programs) and faculty from the University of Minnesota who are dedicated to advancing the arts and sciences of technical communication. We are affiliated with the International Society for Technical Communication and the Twin Cities Region 6 Chapter. The STC-UMN chapter welcomes new members and encourages participation in one or more of our committees, Public Relations, Web Development, Design, Program, Events, and Networking. We offer significant opportunities to work in cross-functional teams, and we have a lot of fun in the process!
