Abstract:
This project explores a sample population of Phase I and II Recover Room RN's regarding their perceptions of paper and computerized charting as well as AED (Automatic Electronic Defibrillator) training. The study took place in a Recovery Room that used a paper based documentation system but was in the process of converting to a computerized charting system. The study was conducted before the transition to computerized charting was implemented in the recovery room area. A survey questionnaire using a Likert scale was used to gain insight to the perceptions of the RN staff regarding paper/computerized charting and how they felt towards the new computerized charting system, I also looked at demographic information to compare and contrast personal technology use, age and to see if there was a correlation between these demographics and workplace technology. The information generated from the survey questionnaire will help look at how technology affects nurse's attitudes/perceptions, job performance (efficiency, productivity), and patient care.
