Abstract:
Assessment criteria for online courses often closely match assessment criteria for classroom-based courses. Such a transfer of standards can produce and perpetuate a reality that flattens out that reality’s complexity. This project seeks to explore what is left dark in the assessment strategies for two online courses at Unisys. It asks, “Where is value located in these two online courses?” The evidence that I collected suggests a new criteria emerging for technology-enhanced courses. This evidence documents a shift in what is valuable about learning in two online courses and identifies a need for one company’s assessment criteria to reflect that shift in value.
